Squeezebox Touch Review

Logitech Squeezebox Touch Review
The Logitech Squeezebox Touch is one of the 4 Logitech Squeezebox models, and the ONLY touch screen enabled wifi radio of the group. The brilliant, full-color, 4.3 inch touch screen is easy to read and gives you touch access to intuitive, flowing menus. Just touch the “My Music” or “Internet Radio” prompts or one of your many online subscription services like Pandora, Rhapsody or Napster for instant access to your favorite music.
Any available album art is displayed on the large color screen, and the “Smart Remote” actually tracks your movements. The further away from the screen you move, the larger the display becomes, allowing you easy viewing from across the room.
Hooked on Touch

Being a touch screen lover (I just love the latest technology), I was wowed by the huge 4.3 inch screen in the compact Squeezebox Touch. The fact that it displays in clear, full color is outstanding. It is instantaneous in its response, and the on-screen menus are laid out in a very sensible, flowing pattern.
I really like the album art or available graphics that are displayed as you access different music, podcasts or stations. It keeps the music experience fun, and helps educate you as to what other music may be out there that you would enjoy.
Rich Hi Fi Sound

The Squeezebox Touch is designed to connect to your home hi-fi system or powered speakers. It offers “high resolution encoding support for full, rich stereo sound” which is a fancy way of saying this compact, space-saving 10 x 8.5 x 5 inch table-top stereo receiver transfers digital music to full-sound via your home stereo or other powered speakers easily.
The USB port and SD card slot allow access to all your music hardware. And there are a ton of software programmers who have created a load of apps for the Logitech Squeezebox Touch that extend its versatility even further.
Easy Setup
I have to say though that the “pull it out of the box and turn it on” setup is dramatic. Nothing could be easier, and this step really sets it apart from the other internet radios out there. You literally unbox it, plug it in, let it find your WIFI, and you are jamming! Whether you want to listen to the BBC, live Australian Rules Football from “down under”, or any of the thousands of free internet stations from around the globe, the Squeezebox Touch takes you there.
Control from your computer is sort of clunky, so I just stuck to the remote, and everything was fine. As I moved the unit around the house, it never drifted or lost clarity. If you have a signal, the Logitech Squeezebox Touch can access your stereo system and deliver your favorite sounds to your home stereo system or other powered speaker set.
One customer commented:
By Steve… I’ve had this for 6 months now, and it is just the greatest little music device ever. All your music, online sources, everything – in one little sleek and easy to use package that sounds great. iPeng is a must – lets you control the Squeezebox from anywhere in the house, and since I use it as a source for my Nuvo whole house audio system, that means I can listen to anything I want, whenever I want, from anywhere in the house or garden. Don’t remember what life was like before I had this! On the downside, the server SW is relatively complex, and has a glitch once in a while. They seem to be improving it, and Logitech is usually able to sort these types of things out. Nothing major, and it has never affected my ability to use it for very long.
Squeezebox Touch In Summary
All in all, the combination of color touch screen, remote, small size and internet accessibility is a great package. Rated a whopping 4.2 stars out of 5 by previous online customers, this cutting edge touch screen technology is at the top end of the internet radio market, at around $300. However, if you want the number one internet radio out there, the Logitech Squeezebox Touch is the best of the best.

Logitech Squeezebox Radio Review

Logitech Squeezebox Radio Review
The Logitech Squeezebox Radio music player offers a surprisingly large set of features in a small package that is ideal for moving your music around the house. This wifi radio allows music lovers to listen to an infinite supply of their favorite music, news and sports from stations all over the world.
With its cool looks and color screen, you get simple, easy-to-use access music via the WIFI receiver in a small bodied, full-range stereo box, and all without turning on your computer. And if you are hooked to Facebook (who isn’t!), you can share music recommendations on the full color Squeezebox screen.

Big Sound, Small Package
An integrated subwoofer and high def tweeter provide deep lows and glass-breaking highs to accompany rich clean mids. You will be amazed at the sound you get from this 2010 Consumer Electronics Show Innovation Award Winner. This little guy is super-powerful. It will not replace your home theater system, but it makes a room full of sound from literally thousands of available internet stations and music services.
Connect your iPod or MP3 Player

And, if you want to enjoy your iPod or other mp3 music library, just plug it into the aux in jack and you are listening in seconds. This makes it easy to move the compact 9 inch wide x 5 inch tall x 4.5 inch deep radio anywhere and listen to your personal music library in full rich sound. There is no limits here. The tweeter and subwoofer really do supply strong, clear sound that can fill a large room.
No Setup – Turn it on and Your in Business
But what I really like the most is the setup. There isn’t any! Out of the box, turn it on and it finds your home WIFI network, and you are up and running. That is it! Just plug it into any AC jack and you have access to the internet as long as you are in your WIFI zone. As long as you have a WIFI signal available, you have access to an almost unlimited supply of music and audio files and podcasts and broadcasts. Any and every station on the Internet, all podcasts, online music services and FM and AM stations that are online are yours to enjoy in rich, crystal clear sound.

The auto-dimming feature on the display is neat for those who do not like bright displays while they sleep. As the room light dims, so does the display. It is still plenty bright to see and operate, but not overly so. What is great for shift workers or those with varying work schedules, the 7 day alarm timer gives you the versatility to set 7 different alarm times on 7 different stations for each day of the week.
You can also add an optional “line of sight” infrared remote if you want maximum ease of use. My only complaints are the lack of backlit buttons for low light use, and the polished black finish which is a fingerprint magnet. But considering those are really the only negatives, this Amazon favorite that has received a 4 out of 5 star rating from previous customers is a great performer.
What one customer has to say:
By Val De La Guardia… This product has gone beyond expectations. The connection to the wireless network went flawlessly as well as the connection to my PC. The sound for such a small unit is really amazing. The features and ease of use are also a breeze. If I had to find something not perfect with this unit, is the fact that is not stereo in the main speaker, however, if you want stereo you can always use headphones which is the application I really wanted it for. I recommend this radio without reservations!
Logitech Squeezebox Radio – Should I Buy One?
This is a cool unit and from personal experience owning one of these beauties, I can highly recommend it. At less than $150, this portable internet radio offers a great feature set in a package that looks great and can be moved around the house with ease. Need music outside for a barbeque, this unit’s got it covered. The sound is rich and clear, the size makes it deceptively small and portable, and the list of features make the Logitech Squeezebox Radio Internet Radio a thumbs up choice for portable sound shoppers. If you are looking to buy a Wifi Internet Radio, the Logitech Squeezebox has to be on your shortlist.
Grace Digital GDI-IRA500 Review

Grace Digital GDI-IRA500
The Grace Digital GDI-IRA500 Solo WIFI Internet Radio by Grace Digital connects your home stereo system to the internet without having to go through your computer. This allows you to stream music that sits on your computer OR access thousands of internet radio stations that are free to listen.

Without the need to be wired in, it hooks effortlessly to any WIFI router in an easy 5 minute setup. It has built-in access to 802.11g and 802.11b/g/n routers, and offers storage of up to 10 pre-set stations that you can program. The accompanying remote control makes operating the unit without getting up a snap.
Simply connect your home stereo to the GDI-IRA500 with the RCA left and right jacks, turn on and enjoy over 18,000 AM and FM radio and over 30,000 HD internet stations featuring, comedy, talk, all music genres, podcasts and sports broadcasts. Weighing in at only one pound and taking up a very small 8 x 6 x 5 inches, the Grace Solo GDI-IRA500 is extra-portable, and takes up almost no space.
Use your iPhone as a Rmote for the IRA500
One of the coolest features of this unit is the ability to control it’s operation through your iPhone. Simily download the free Grace Digital iPhone App from the Apple App library and your in control. How cool is that! On off, volume, presets and channel surfing are all within your control remotely via your iPhone.
How does the unit perform?
Okay, those are the technical specs, but the bottom line when you are looking to buy any sound-broadcasting device is performance. How does it sound? Previous online customers rate the Grace Digital Solo GDI-IRA500 an impressive 4 out of 5 stars, so let’s take a look at the good and bad that they found.
Most reviewers found it quick to hook up out of the box. Connect the power cord, run the RCA cables to your stereo, turn it on, set it to your WIFI network, and you have sound in 5 minutes. The GDI-IRA500 Solo set has a big, easy to read display that shows the song or station data, and is easy to read even from a distance.
A couple of customers did not like the fact that you can not rename folders, they come pre-labeled “Internet Radio”, “Personal Radio”, etc. When dealing with Grace support, they found that the internet support is the way to go. Several buyers waited forever on the telephone, but received lightning support online. Lesson learned, use the internet tech service rather than outdated telephone technology.
Many online reviewers noted that they never looked at the manual! When you pull the unit out of the box, it just looks so straightforward you might do the same. Set-up was easy and intuitive, the radio, alarm clock, and sleep timers worked well, and the price is shockingly low. You can expect to literally pay double what you will spend here to get similar features. The polished black finish looks sleek, and there are so many free stations, most customers simply did not see the need to purchase any subscriptions.
What one Customer had to say:
Peter Beudert… OK, assume I like listening to radio anyway, but this is one device that makes me love technology again. Once set up, the Grace radio is simple and reliable. The on line interface through Reciva makes it very easy to browse available stations and add them to the device remotely. My only criticism of the device is the very clumsy onboard controls required for set up and setting the password. Thankfully this is only done once. After that the item behave beautifully!
So What’s the Verdict?
Overall the Grace Digital GDI-IRA500 wireless internet receiver is a great buy at less than a hundred bucks, Amazon will throw in free shipping if you buy from them, and people who have purchased it online in the past rate it 4 out of 5 stars. So, if you are looking for a wireless Internet Receiver for your home stereo, the Grace Digital Solo GDI-IRA500 might be the one for you.
Grace Digital GDI-IR2500 Review

Grace Digital GDI-IR2500
Electronics and radio maker Grace Digital claims the Grace Digital GDI-IR2500 “Innovator III” allows you to wirelessly access over 30,000 music channels including Pandora, iheartradio, NPR on-demand, BBC, ESPN, Live 365 and Sirius. You can choose by the area you live in, any state or country, or your favorite station name. There are also more than 50 genres and all the most-listened-to weather, news and talk stations.
You can even log into your Pandora or Sirius accounts and listen to your favorite music channels commercial-free. And if you have a massive library of music on your MAC or PC you will be able to listen to the entire collection over a sound system that is loud and clear, and even comes with a handy remote control for lazy people like me. As if that was not enough, there is an Aux in jack that creates limitless possibilities. Oh yeah, and it is backlit, so using in dim lighting is no problem.
With all that going for it, you only need to know the price right? I mean, with all those features, comparable models go for around $250 dollars. Not bad; you certainly don’t mind paying for great, cutting edge features that make your life more enjoyable, I know I don’t. Well, what if I told you that previous customers rated their satisfaction level a super 4 out of 5 stars, that you could get it with free shipping, and it was currently about 50% off and around $120? Yeah, I thought so, me too! I found out a friend of mine had one, so I went and checked it out. Here is what I found.
So how does it sound?
While full volume won’t fill your entire house, and I didn’t expect it to, it can blow up a small room. At 5.25 x 5.25 x 9.75 inches I found it small enough to fit on a desktop at work or a home office, supplying easy access without taking up much room. First seeing the size, I was concerned that it would not produce enough sound, but it is a regular mini-stereo.You can also hook up you favorite paid of headphones or connect the unit to your Hi-Fi system for even more listening options.
The remote control is full-function, and even operating from a distance of 15 feet it worked fine. Like it’s smaller brother )the Grace GDI-IRA500 “Solo”), you can also use your iPhone to act as a remote control for the GDI-IRA2500. It’s as easy as downloading the free app from iTunes. This is a cool unique feature available only from Grace Digital.
A neat feature that I wish was available on more of the channels I frequent is the streaming text. When you are listening to a music, podcast or weather channel, when available by the programmer, you get streaming text with descriptions and updates. It is not the fault of the Grace Digital GDI-IR2500 that not all stations and internet programs offer this feature.
I personally did not care that the headphone jack is on the back, and the audio-in port on the front, but this may be an issue for some. It is a small-in-size, sound powerhouse, but only weighs 4.4 pounds, so tapping the buttons on the face tends to make it slide if it is not anchored against something.
One customer commented:
By Simonas Zmuidzinas… I bought this, set it up online in 5 minutes and was listening to all of my favorite European stations in minutes. The only reason for 4/5 for sound quality, is the attached speakers are only fair, BUT connected to your home stereo system it is as good as your home stereo at its best. I immediately bought a second for a Christmas gift. 100-240 volt charger makes this useful WORLDWIDE.
The only minor part that will not function outside the USA is Pandora (so far limited only to the USA). For US residents (and soon Canadian) the “thumbs up” and “thumbs down” aspect right on the radio could not be easier. Easy to read backlit 4-line panel visible in the dark or light.
Bottom Line!
If you are in the market for an internet radio, the Grace Digital GDI-IR2500 has tons of upside and very little if any negatives. Feature by feature, it compares well with the Logitech Squeezebox Radio and is also slightly cheaper. With free shipping thrown in, what’s not to like? The unit’s looks and style will make you proud to display it in your bedroom or living room and sound quality is good for a unit of this size. Connect it to your HiFi and you have a real powerhouse. The Grace Digital GDI-IR2500 should be on your short list if you are looking for a portable, versatile and good looking wifi radio.
Sanyo R227 Review

Sanyo R227 Wifi Internet Radio
With it’s retro look, the Sanyo R227 WiFi Internet Radio could be mistaken for an old fashioned radio receiver which, actually it is but it also incorporates the latest in wifi and internet access to play unlimited sources of music streamed from your local home network or via the world wide web. Other features include:

- Connect via wired ethernet or wifi
- No computer required to operate
- No subscriptions required to listen to music
- FM stereo digital tuner with 8 station presets
- Stereo Aux Input to connect your MP3 player or other portable players
- Alarm clock function to wake up to Internet radio or FM
All Inclusive Unit with Speakers
This Wifi Internet radio is an all inclusive unit with built in speakers making it easy to listen to music anywhere there is a wifi signal. If you don’t have wifi at home yet, you can also connect via a standard RJ45 network cable to your hub or router.
Even when the music was streaming at 32k, the signal didn’t waver. In the house around my wireless network it was outstanding, and never dropped. The ability to listen to commercial free music on thousands of channels, Sports, or Talk radio makes it easy and perfect for everyone. It is a true modern day internet radio.
It is also decent-looking, borrowing a little from vintage radio styling with one large tuner / access knob on the right and other control options on the left, as well as a backlit display that makes viewing possible in low light situations.
There is also a sleep timer so the set will shut itself off after a designated time, and you can wake to any station you tune to, or a buzzer. It is a great set for home or office, but I really liked the portability of it. And the Sanyo R227 automatically adds new stations as they become available.
What is really cool is the ability to request that new stations be added to the database. This way, you can always get your local news and weather, even when you are away from home. The Sanyo R227 delivers versatility by letting you surf by music genres, or music software type. You can choose from MP3, WMA, AAC, AIFF, RM and WAV formats. If your jams or podcasts are in those formats and on the net, you can grab them. And it comes standard with a full access remote control. This gives you so much more than subscription radio like Sirius, XM and the others.
What one customers had to say:
By Bruno… This radio cured my radio reception problems. I live about 35 miles from a major metropolitan area and could never pick up my favorite radio stations with traditional FM clock radios. The static and bleed over from nearer stations drove me crazy. Now I get local stations (AM and FM) static free and can choose between thousands of radio stations and internet streams from around the world. I’ve found that many stations, particularly AM, have fewer advertisers for their internet streams than for their over-the-air broadcasts, so while everyone else is listening to a commercial you’re hearing a short musical interlude.
To Sum Up…
The Sanyo R227 WiFi Internet Radio is what it is, a small (fits easily on my bedside table), portable wifi / broadband radio with great sound. It is priced right (currently on sale with FREE shipping), and has a remote control so you don’t have to get up once you’re comfortable. You can pay more for the same features, but why? Sanyo has a really nice product that will please your pocketbook. It does however have serious competition from the Logitech Squeezebox Radio which offers the same if not better functionality at a lower price.
